The beautiful woman in the picture to the left is Carol Ledesma, my mother. Born and raised in the Dominican republic, the was always considered a native of a third world country with ways much different then those here in America. Daughter of William Ledesma, a known political figure in the Dominican, Carol's life was a bit more extreme than one would imagine it to have been on this small island.
The taking over of Castro affected her childhood with great intensity when her father had to go into hiding while being targeted as a rebel of the Dominican Government, leaving Carol, her two sisters, brother, and adopted sister all in the hands of their mother, Norma Ledesma. It was a few years before they saw their father again but once he returned he was welcomed into the Dominican Republic as a hero who helped to take down the dictator who was terrorizing the island, giving him high ranking in the newly formed Dominican Government. By the age of 18, Carol had grown up to be an over achieving student and attended a college in the Dominican while working as a secretary in a law office. Soon later she met a man who she believed to be the man of her dreams, David Anthony Wong who was hiding away in the Dominican due to some legal issues in America.
When a death in his family forced David to return to America, Carol was lead by her heart and dropped out of college to follow him. David lived at home with his mother in America but upon his return he married Carol as soon as possible to keep her in the country legally but shortly after he was arrested and put into jail leaving Carol who barely spoke English to live with David's mother Hilda, a women that she barely knew. Carol was left to get a job working at a Burger king and start her life all over on her own. When David was finally released from Jail Carol gave birth to me, Asia Wong. My father's drug addiction and his decreasing motivation in life left my mother the sole supporter of both my father and I.
Eventually she began to work at a Dunkin Donuts and the long hours that she put in eventually supplied enough money for her to afford moving out little family into our first apartment in Fallriver, MA. My mother worked her way up in the company by putting in long hours day by day and coming in whenever she was called until a few years later when she gained the title as The manager of the quarter and found herself running the entire store. When my father left the family and went on in his life by himself, my mother stayed with me and raised a little girl all on her own, supporting the needs of the two of us, the bills flowing in from the house and my schooling and electricity and heat. She also had the time to juggle raising me with good morals and responsibility. In her spare time she let off steam by working out at a local gym where she managed to lose so much weight and become so strong with a nice, healthy figure.
